Mini tree :(

Figured out why my mini tree died :(

It had no roots in soil about 3cm deep, which consisted of a large amount of polystyrene balls.

The little amount below my hand was basically its root system. I think the people who bought me my awesome mini tree were ripped off.

It was called a bonsai, but I don't think it counted. So RIP mini tree :(
