What I'm doing at work Part 1

So at work I do a bunch of graphic design, and bunch of admin stuff. The admin stuff is boring, so I'll leave it to your imagination. Here is some of the design stuff I'm doing.

My co-worker Kevin Slous:

...has been working on a tool for people to use to evaluate how they're doing in their corps activities. It's called the Equalizer - like you're trying to make sure you cover all important areas rather than excelling in some and failing in others. Here's a poster I did. It's meant to be used for a group evaluation, and is 2x3 feet:

Okay, next I've been working on resources for a kids Hero Academy. I didn't make the graphics, but I've used them in various things like trading cards, posters etc.

The content of the Hero Academy is being put together by Sheryl Slous:

Recently, we also have been getting a bunch of team merchandise with our new logo on them. The CAN with a maple leaf is for Canada, and the BDA with the longtail bird is for Bermuda. I'll put the pics of some of the merch, as well as some tees I designed later so I don't use all my coffee break blogging :)

This weekend - Sunday

Today I woke up feeling great at like, 7:30. I looked out the window, and it was the start of a beautiful day. Gorgeous weather.

But, it was a Sunday, and seeing I didn't sleep in yesterday, I refused to waste my opportunity, and went back to sleep for some awesome dreams until 12:30pm, at which point I started the craziness once more.

1. Eating a bunch of apple brownies and the last remaining apple cookie for breakfast.
2. Washing dishes,
3. interspersed with cleaning up the windowsill with all the plants on it (pruning, ditching gross bits of plants, watering plants, etc.
4. which then included taking all the plants off the windowsill to wash the windowsill, clean all the leaves from the floor under the windowsill, and clean the windows, including the filthy flyscreen. 
5. Washing some more dishes.
6. Taking all the gross/dead plant bits down to the compost bins, and then rescuing the reviving lily bulbs hidden in the potting mix to replant,
7. Taking out the recycling
8. Starting a box for random stuff people have abandoned here when they moved out so Kanga can sell it all at the Garage Sale next weekend.
9. Replanting lily bulbs
10. Throwing Chicken Apricot ingredients into a slow cooker for dinner/lunch tomorrow
11. Putting clean dishes away and getting out a bunch of veggies to cook for lunches.

I took a break to type out this blog, and use some of the pics off my phone, and eat an apple and some Sugar Snap Peas. 

This afternoon I plan to:

1. Finish the dishes
2. Cook a frittata
3. Finish cooking veggies
4. Clean my room
5. Do my laundry
6. Put away last week's clean laundry
7. Do my InDesign homework and get a bunch of magazines for my Principles of Design homework.
8. Maybe hit up Value Village for the fun of it. We'll see how long my responsible streak lasts.

This weekend - Saturday.

So, this weekend, I went with Kanga and a couple of kids (Heather - 6, and Fantasia - 9) for a crazy Saturday.

First we went to see a free movie. It was called "Pup Stars". Basically a B grade kids movie with talking dogs that nobody over the age of ten should be subjected to. And I usually LIKE kids movies...

After that, we grabbed pizza for lunch, then went apple picking at Homestead Orchards I think. First a tractor ride, then apple picking, then the shop with all the baked goods :) :)  I got apples, plus apple brownies and apple cookies with butterscotch chips in them. Chewy :) but probably didn't need as many butterscotch chips. 

Then, we attempted to make it to a TFC soccer match. After too much traffic on the Don Valley, a late streetcar which was then diverted, and then replaced by a shuttle bus, which then stopped ages away from the actual venue, we only made it there to climb up a million stairs, and be told it was two minutes to half time. Here is a picture of the players leaving the field. 

Since we were going to have to leave early to catch a World Cup of Hockey match, this was fairly ruinous. Kanga got a couple of pics with Fantasia (?spelling) and we abandoned the game to streetcar it back and drop her home - a long walk from King and Sherbourne, via Dollarama, and then down Parliament to the Distillery District to the World Cup of Hockey Fan venue with a giant screen. Here is a pic of the "special" Finland lion (see HERE for reference) on a zamboni (ice rink surfacer):

 And here is a pic of the giant screen showing the Canada vs Russia game which Canada won 5-3.

And here is a pic of the "Pepsi Main Stage" - this was like in the centre, with two large screens on either side, and some guy came out and gave free stuff in every ad break.

It's ancient, but brand new.... borrowed.... and very, very blue.

IT'S OLD, IT'S NEW, IT'S BORROWED AND IT'S F******G BLUE!!!!!!!!!! I should stop shouting. And crying. SON OF A B*****!!!!!!!!! Okay, that was fairly decent. I should do photoshop homework or cook lunches or something.

So I like Doctor Who now. That's a new development. So's crying at the stupid flipping season finale double feature when he saves the universe, gets erased from time, then Amy remembers him :)

Movies I hate/ think are stupid... I don't tend to give them brain space to be honest... I'll come back when I remember them...

Oh my gosh so funny

Digital Illustration class at George Brown

Yesterday I finished all my assignments for my Digital Illustration class and submitted them by the due date, yay :) It was a class to get familiar with using a Wacom pen and tablet, and used mostly Adobe Illustrator - a graphic design type program.

Assignment #1: Garden Assignment
We were being assessed on how well we could trace things using the pen, and use the Colour Guide to create a completed design.

Assignment #2: Border Motif
Assessed on how well we used various shape creation tools to make a border.

Assignment #3: Character design
Assessed on how well we used layers for each part of the character and had them layered and named logically.

Assignment #4: Stamp
We had to design a postage stamp, and create the scalloped stamp border ourselves using circles and the align tool, as well as having the layers organised, etc.

Assignment #5: Brushes
In addition to all the layers stuff we had to show that we could create and/or modify each of the four brush types in Illustrator. Plus we had to design and include a stylised artists signature/logo.

Assignment #6: Fishbowl
Using all the previous stuff as well as the new concepts of gradient meshes, symbols and patterns we had to create a fish in a fishbowl. And have it show some depth and stuff. It has way more detail than you can see in this jpeg, lol. eg. the fish has scales, and everything is a lot more crisp.

Assignment #7: Poster

We had to create a poster reminiscent of the Art Nouveau/Art Deco style around the concept of "peace". It was hoped that we would include a portrait of some kind in the design. 

So there you go. We haven't gotten our marks back, but that is what I did in my class for the past dozen weeks or more. Tah dah :D

Christmas Eve 2015

Yesterday morning someone paid me to draw cool things on a blackboard, yay :)

And then I went and helped pick up kettles and count the resultant donations. A kettle like this:

...where people put donations in at Christmastime. 

Then I went to hang out with some friends, but they weren't home yet, so I returned a library book and had A&W burger & sweet potato fries for dinner. I was going to meet up with some other friends to hang out, but discovered that I was exhausted and went to bed instead :P mmmmm sleeeeep :)
