Work

I went to work today, surprise surprise :)

I work at an architects’ office checking house plan applications for a housing estate, and doing general office stuff.

At the moment I am rushing to get a whole heap of stuff done, so I can ask any questions I have before Dan goes on holidays for a month – Dan being the guy that has been running me through stuff and answering my many questions. I have a few piles – the new pile that needs checking; the question pile, the “waiting for info” pile, the signing pile, and so on. Right now the question pile, and the “waiting for info” piles are HUGE, while the new pile has got about 3 files in it – because I am mostly on top of the new stuff, and I’m waiting for Dan to have some spare time so I can ask him some questions and whittle down my question pile. Otherwise I will have to wait and ask my boss, and he’s pretty busy, and frequently out of the office.

Unfortunately, my boss wants Dan to do a heap of stuff before his holiday, so I’m left stressing in anticipation of all the phone calls and emails from people wanting to know where their building approvals are, while I wait to get my questions answered.

I thought it was kind of funny that my spiritual life is very similar to my current situation at work. I have basically caught up on everything I can possibly figure out on my own, and I have a huge question pile waiting for answers. Unfortunately for me, “Dan” has already gone on holidays. Meaning, my bible study group, 614 church community and Ignite team have left my life at the moment, and seeing as I haven’t been able to get into a bible study; I don’t live with Christians and I haven’t been able to get into community with people I see for half an hour before and after the meeting on Sunday morning, I don’t have people at hand with whom I can discuss God really well.

God in this analogy is kind of like my boss – frequently out of the office, and doesn’t generally seem to answer questions directly – he seems to leave it to “Dan”. I’m still asking him stuff anyway, but my question pile isn’t really getting any smaller.

Quite frustrating really.

I think I think too much. :)

Anyway, Paul Mergard preached on Sunday, and he was cool. I got two ideas for devotions or sermons, probably devotions seeing as I still haven’t nutted out how to do appeals. Or as Sandra said - I need to work on my endings. I couldn’t agree more. Somehow I don’t think practically throwing the mike at someone and nearly running off the stage to get away from all the staring eyes isn’t the best way to finish off any kind of sermon :) Ok, I exaggerate. But not by much…
