Life

I know, I'm such a faithful blogger :)

I have been blogging though - go check out the Rubicon (www.therubicon.org). I get posted every week, which means I can't be lazy and I have to think of something semi-interesting every week or else...

Only problem is, most of my thoughts are really hard to keep under a 300 word limit. They all seem to like being around 700 words minimum... ANYWAY...

Last weekend I went on Adventurer camp with 80 ish boys aged 7 to 11. As well as about 6 girls of the same age who came cos they couldn't make Sunbeam camp in 2 weekends time. I totally miss being a SAGALA leader - those guys rule. I really have to get back into it.

I have about 4 medical type appointments on the horizon - one to get the last bit of wire removed from my teeth by an orthodontist; one dentist appointment; one to get an x-ray of my sinuses, and one to get my knee cartilage checked by a specialist. I hope I don't need surgery...

I finally think I found a bible study to go to, with a bunch of the guys from the Brisbane City Temple corps. We had a bit of discussion on the nature of church and the neccessity of church sunday meetings. Yeah. I miss Regent Park bible studies.

I miss Regent Park. But if I go over there just for the sake of missing it, I will have to find a job over there (which I am not very good at HERE let alone in Canada). I wish I could find somewhere to do something. I hate all this "doing stuff in-between" - I don't like committing to stuff when I don't know how long it's going to be for. I want to say that if nothing turns up by February I'll just go back to Canada and see how things turn out there, but I don't know.

Well I've done as much as I can think of (applying for stuff etc etc), now I'm just waiting for the results to show up.

My great uncle Brian Tait died a couple of weeks ago, and last week we went to his funeral. Look him up online - he was pretty famous in the 60's and 70's - won stacks of stuff. I might write a proper blog on him later. I think I will also put up my 600 word things that I can't shorten for use on the Rubicon. I wrote them, I might as well use them :)

I am really tired. Sleep time!

Work

I went to work today, surprise surprise :)

I work at an architects’ office checking house plan applications for a housing estate, and doing general office stuff.

At the moment I am rushing to get a whole heap of stuff done, so I can ask any questions I have before Dan goes on holidays for a month – Dan being the guy that has been running me through stuff and answering my many questions. I have a few piles – the new pile that needs checking; the question pile, the “waiting for info” pile, the signing pile, and so on. Right now the question pile, and the “waiting for info” piles are HUGE, while the new pile has got about 3 files in it – because I am mostly on top of the new stuff, and I’m waiting for Dan to have some spare time so I can ask him some questions and whittle down my question pile. Otherwise I will have to wait and ask my boss, and he’s pretty busy, and frequently out of the office.

Unfortunately, my boss wants Dan to do a heap of stuff before his holiday, so I’m left stressing in anticipation of all the phone calls and emails from people wanting to know where their building approvals are, while I wait to get my questions answered.

I thought it was kind of funny that my spiritual life is very similar to my current situation at work. I have basically caught up on everything I can possibly figure out on my own, and I have a huge question pile waiting for answers. Unfortunately for me, “Dan” has already gone on holidays. Meaning, my bible study group, 614 church community and Ignite team have left my life at the moment, and seeing as I haven’t been able to get into a bible study; I don’t live with Christians and I haven’t been able to get into community with people I see for half an hour before and after the meeting on Sunday morning, I don’t have people at hand with whom I can discuss God really well.

God in this analogy is kind of like my boss – frequently out of the office, and doesn’t generally seem to answer questions directly – he seems to leave it to “Dan”. I’m still asking him stuff anyway, but my question pile isn’t really getting any smaller.

Quite frustrating really.

I think I think too much. :)

Anyway, Paul Mergard preached on Sunday, and he was cool. I got two ideas for devotions or sermons, probably devotions seeing as I still haven’t nutted out how to do appeals. Or as Sandra said - I need to work on my endings. I couldn’t agree more. Somehow I don’t think practically throwing the mike at someone and nearly running off the stage to get away from all the staring eyes isn’t the best way to finish off any kind of sermon :) Ok, I exaggerate. But not by much…
