Biking bruises!
Yay for a great week and an excuse to finally blog after weeks of lame silence! I don’t even know if anyone reads this, but hey! Eventually I might even put up photos! Or a video if that’s possible... maybe on Facebook?
So this week I was put down to help with Ropes and Rock Climbing – which is fun, don’t get me wrong, and Outdoor Living. The only thing was, I have just over a week of camp left, which means I have just over a week to master all the mountain biking elements before I leave - so I really wanted to do biking. I haven’t really ridden a bike since mine was stolen in like, 2001, so I’m a bit out of practise. Anyway, I am totally getting better, and so far I’ve done the easiest bridge, the teeter-totter (read: giant see-saw) as well as the big bridge then the teeter-totter all in one go. Yay for mountain biking!!! Lucky me - they needed extra help with biking this week, so I got to change out of Ropes :) Sweet :)
So today was my chance to complete the ramp and the drop at the top of the cliff (we don’t go over the cliff, don’t worry). I could never do it before – you have to ride up this ramp and then turn quickly to go down the ramp, because if you go straight at the forked bit you go off the biking drop (maybe a foot and a half high) and you’re not allowed to do that till you’ve done the ramp. And last week biking was rained out, so I couldn’t even try it then.
But today I did it! Yay!! And it even got filmed, so I have proof! It wasn’t on the first go, but I still did it, then biked back around the path to the start without stopping. So happy :P :)
But then I got too enthusiastic, and tried to do the drop today as well, and I didn’t really understand what to do. He said lean back and lift your front tyre at the drop... so I leaned back... then leaned forward and went over my handlebars and landed on my left side, scratching and bruising my knee and elbow. And getting very dirty. But I was ok :) I just freaked out Demetrius a bit (he’s the guy that runs biking). So now I have a big lump on my kneecap, and grazes on my knee and elbow, and nearly a hole in my hoodie – not cool :(
I now get to practise doing slight wheelies just before a drop so I land on my rear wheel first, or at least on both together. I am SO going to get this before I leave... I so hope, anyway...
And we saw a very cute mouse in the Quest Village today – then it ran away into the trees. My teepee did a polar bear swim this morning for cabin points, and stacked chairs at lunch – also for cabin points, and today is Japan day during our Olympic themed week. And Canada has yet to place in the medal count for the Olympics, while Australia is apparently tied for third. I won’t rub it in – they kick our butts at the Winter Olympics...
I should go get an ice pack on my knee... Yay for fun :)
