End of Quebec

On Tuesday, Heather and Denise went to Quebec City and Trois Rivieres to visit someone. They made a wrong turn and were two hours late in getting back, lol! I helped out the kitchen staff and did meetings and other stuff all day. And that night I watched an episode of Felicity with Ray (chick in charge of camp) and some of the camp staff girls.

On Wednesday morning, we went to look for Heather's great great great great grandparents' graves (Denise's 3x great grandparents lol) in the Dalesville cemetary. Really pretty scenery on the drive there :) We couldn't find the cemetary at first, but then we asked at a store, and the lady told us to drive a bit further up the highway. And there it was! But we couldn't find their gravestones. Figures - they're pretty old gravestones. Then we ate ice cream and beaver tails (pastry things - I had cannelle and sucre on mine, lol) before getting back to camp just after lunch - the Spanish people were just leaving on their buses. It was really nice and sunny weather.

For my last afternoon (Wednesday) at L'Achigan I took some pics. This was before I taught Heather pool; and before devos, where we scored a $3 tip each from the Spanish camp people; and also before we went crazy at the canteen blowout after devos (I scored 4 packs of skittles and 4 packs of S&V chips for $2!) But after Heather beat me at Phase 10 for the bazillionth time!!! We totally played that all week, and I didn't win once! I didn't even win minigolf - I always had to restrain myself from smashing the ball - maybe I should try a driving range :P :)

This is the flagpole with the Canadian and Quebec flags. That didn't get taken down in the rain or at night. Tsk tsk... :)

This is the beach (and the island) with the floaty ropes taken out because camp was over.

And below is on Thursday (today!) at the bridge over the Ottawa River - the other side of the bridge was Quebec, and this side is in Ontario :) This was on our way home - when we were back on English speaking soil, and I could stop saying "oui oui" and "arret!" every little while. But I didn't. It's very addictive :)

And now I am back in Toronto, and I have one day of work left until the weekend!

Quebec 2 - APPLES!

This is the story of the awesome apple tree that I found when me, Denise and Heather went to minigolf. It was in the car park across the road from the place, and it TOTALLY had like, ripe apples on the ground and I'm like - sweet!!! APPLE TREE!!! (kind of like when I found a coconut tree in Cairns...)

So afterwards, on our way back to the car, I decided to shake some branches and score some apples! There were two ripe-ish ones, so I aimed for those...
Apple one was smaller and less ripe:

And apple two was bigger and riper and I ATE IT AND IT WAS AMAZING!!!

(And apparently I didn't focus right when I took these pics. Oh well...)
And that is the story of the amazing apple tree :)

Quebec 1

This week (Sunday 16 to Thursday 20) I drove to the Salvation Army camp at Lac L'Achigan in Quebec. I went with Denise Walker (one of my bosses) and her niece Heather - it was a trip for work cos I had to meet with someone and hash out Olympics mission team stuff.

The campsite was small compared to Newport (where I spent last summer) and Jackson's Point (another campsite) but it had a really nice lake, and good weather apart from two afternoon storms. I volunteered to help in the kitchen around mealtimes, and with serving as well which was fun cos I got to hang out with the camp staff who were awesome!

Seeing as this was Quebec - the French speaking province of Canada - I was totally going to learn more French sentences this week, but seeing as it was Spanish camp I ended up trying to learn both Spanish and French, lol. So, I'm quite proficient in saying "oui oui" "sil vous plait" "Bon jour" and "merci" but now I also can add "si" "kee-er-en cafe?" " buenos dias" and "de nada" (Spanish) to my list :) OH, and my road trip favourites: "Arret!" and "Lentement" (Stop and slow street signs in French)

So yeah. On Sunday and Monday and I did a bunch of beach stuff with Heather, like swimming, canoeing to the nearby island, jumping off the dock and paddle boating. The water was really nice - especially on Monday because we went earlier in the afternoon and it was warmer.

And yeah. I played pool with a bunch of the camp staff, and did the meetings I was supposed to, and was a pro at setting tables, serving coffee and then clearing tables and putting stuff away :) Yay :) Totally got to keep my camp t-shirt as well :) I'll add it to my collection, lol.
